your know you are doing something right when greg wilson comes knocking at your door for some disco edit action. such is the life now for croation nu disco gem ilija rudmen. after a series of releases on labels rong, infant and deep freeze, bearfunk were quick to grab dance disorder and wasted no time in asking their studio neighbours faze action to step up. their synth bass, low slung and sleazy remix, with a dose of their trademark strings hits the spot. this sits snuggly with ilijas original which mixes in real bass and guitar with his analog heavy funk laden grooves.

this obscure lost soundtrack for an even more obscure (and also lost and never finished) italia violenta cop movie was recently discovered when i bought the dusty reel tapes from a restaurant owner in fiumicino, a seaside town near rome. panter 777 aka il labirinto di roma violenta aka the maze of violence, he told me, was directed by gervasio giardano in 1981 and was considered too (politically) explicit by the movie production company who dropped the project after the first screening. the soundtrack, an explosion of wahwah funk riffs and juicy analog synthesizers, was composed by an obscure band called nacho patrol. the restaurant owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of the band members and composed most of the tracks. >was originally called <319 acid<, similar to 516 acid , but it was called 319 as i started this on march 19th 2007. after playing around with ideas, and effects, i had created a panning motion in the track which when listened to in headphones travels in a >counter clock< wise fashion. i was listening to a set of (dj) dixon and noticed how slow and groovy most of the set was, which influenced me to make a twisted, intense track that was in the same tempo range.< josh wink ! chirs liebing comes on board for the remix and keeps a lot of the key elements, but delivers a more in your face version

stone cold classic funky disco floor filler thats stood the test of time. first time ever on 12inch!!! taken from the hard to find self titled lp by tommy stewart, bump & hustle music is the definitive disco funk party anthem. it was recorded in 1976 in atlanta, georgia, and since then the lp has found itself in the play boxes of soul, funk and jazz djs alike. however, its not until now that this amazing song has finally made it onto the preferred format of dance djs the world over – the 45rpm 12inch single. in 1976 tommy stewart was a busy man, working as an arranger, producer, performer and writer for a host of soul and rnb artists. the lp made for abraxas records was the first to go directly under his name, and although it failed to take off locally, the lp soon became known by djs across the world primarily for the club smash bump & hustle music. as it happens that song in particular almost didnt exist but for tommy needing to come up with something quick in order to fill in a gap in the album. conceived and recorded on the spur of the moment, and with backing vocals by isaac hayes singers hot buttered soul overdubbed later, its a superb example of rhythmic simplicity blended with soulful, catchy harmonies. its just impossible to listen to bump & hustle music without a broad smile coming to your face, and when played loud in a club, its impossible not to dance!

lets remixer speak! >it was great to be asked to do this. originally, i wanted to do something really quirky and funky with the strange vocal in human bond, one of my favorite old tracks. i tried a few times but i couldnt really get a vibe going in the funk realm. so i listened to the original over and over again and then the lightbulb turned on. i realized that the original was a monster rave track, like what you would hear in a warehouse in detroit in the 90s. so i threw out my original idea and went crazy with a huge techno builder, something to hype a big rave just like the original. maybe this doesnt sound exactly like what i usually do but that was the fun of making it< claude vonstroke. aa: >bounce your body to the box was one of the first kms records that i owned and it was all about the mike >hitman< wilson mix and force field on the b side. the production on the original was huge. the 909 groove just pounded everything... when that came out there was nothing that came close to it. so it was an honor and a challenge to mix it myself. first came the futurist bounce mix... not released on vinyl, anmerkung, ... which is more of a cover version than a remix. i had a lot of fun with this one but it definitely has a signature that steps away from the original. so i had to take a run at it one more time to pay a proper homage to the original with the flashback mix< mike shannon...

electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

just when we think hes exhausted his stockpile of secret weapons!! heres another duo of killer edits from mr mang!! ray mang better known to his buddies as raj gupta is the behind the scenes guy who has had a hand in some of the uks finest discoid moments ever released! a plethora of releases on labels like noid, fiasco, u star, nuphonic etc etc have cemented his reputation as an amazing producer in his own right and engineer extraordinaire for the likes of the idjut boys & many more. the newly revitalized mangled label has given us an excuse to unleash these classic re edited and totally remastered cuts into the community.

der thal is been playing all over germany and hes been trying to build up his own sound and skills. after making a great remix of reynolds track >craft< on trenton 027 he is now giving us 3 great tracks for a full maxi. mentona ep is a bit of a journey into what trenton use to be about at the very beginning with a techno that is very close to the old school detroit vibe… in der thals music there are a lot of melodic sounds and tough tight beats to keep us on the ground. >mentona< and >maszo< are floating on air with strings and synth lines when >puston< reminds us more of some >tejada< grooves! a great ep anyway from der thal who is definitely on the way to become one of these great young gifted producers that care about music mainly.

since their first releases on circus company and milnormodern the 3 mousketeers achieve to impose themsleves on the scene with their unik touch. the band is clement zemtsov on beat programing, damien vandesande on keyboards and horns at last but not least, jonathan illel is warmly laying the lyrics. after having produced hip-hop instrumental for a few years they got into house music after meeting nicolas from nôze. one year and a half later they come up with between the blues ep, a brilliant first ep on circus company. then the guys several eps on other labels like orac or eklo. they also start touring a lot across europe and eastern countries. this new record is called blanche neige (snow white) as the lead track of the ep. all the lyrics from it are taken from the original text written by jacob & whilelm grimm back in 1812. .blanche neige is declined in two different versions. on the a side comes the original mix is the dancefoor cut. slower house beat, solid groove, surround by a marvelous chior. while the break show upreading the first lines of snow white in french. let me just tell you that when the break is over you should fasten your seat belt before a nice take off… the first track on b side is romeo. this track was produced by dop and nôze. once again all the lyrics are taken from a book. here its from .romeo and juliet written by william shackespeare. this track perfectly represent the alliance of both bands. the unik saxophone skills from damien vandesande the one man horn section, a wonderfull piano ride by nôze and the sexy voice of jonathan illel. an acoustic house blaster ! the ep is finaly closing down on b2 with the pop version of blanche neige called >kinder cut. there comes the deepness

ruede hagelsteins the modest theme has proven to be one of souvenirs most provocative releases so far. released in the summer, the tracks dramatic horn hook is so epic it belongs in a science fiction film and as a piece of forward thinking techno, it ranks among one of souvenirs best. now the track is back with a remix from souvenir spearheads tiefschwarz alongside a new track from berlin based ruede. semikolon is another dark and dubby deep tech-housy outing for ruede that begins with a dramatic spoken word by naneci and ominous organ stabs. as the track progresses it takes on a chicago house vibe re-imagined at 10am in the panorama bar. an urgent bell begins to ring through the track raising the tension as the vocal intones a surreal chant before giving way to huge synth stabs that lead the track into a slow motion emotional explosion. just when things can get any more hectic the crescendo sinks to silence compressing the energy before the beats emerge back in their earlier deep house guise. ali and bast schwarz take their turn at remixing the modest theme fresh from their incendiary remix of emad kamandians kamanche for souvenir 012. the signature dramatic horn riff remains albeit injected with new percussion lending the track a tough tech house appeal that places it within the context of 2008s underground house sound. both tracks are another addition to souvenirs impressive collection of music aimed at the head just as much as they are at the heart and feet.

finally we get a re-issue of the first release on the legendary fat cat label. harking back to the days when the record shop ruled supreme south of the border, this release is somewhat different from the following releases on the label. pure techno music, kind of early dan curtin metamorphic meets ken ishii with a heavy nod to kenny larkin. a techno landmark! official press with original artwork and shrink wrapped picture sleeves.

made to play brings the noise with the sounds of wearhouse music and head honcho lee mortimer. lee mortimers exciting, sleazy, demented take on house has been kicking the sh*t out of dance floors and festivals the world over. this e.p is not for the faint hearted but is for those who like to rock a big crowd in a ballistic way. when jimi hendrix played not just one but both sides of it at woodstock in the 70s the place went off its tits and when he reverted back to playing the guitar it just couldnt compare and he never quite got over that. lee mortimer is currently reveling in mass support from the likes of switch, claude vonstroke, diplo and kriss akabusi who apparently likes to play these tracks as a post love ritual, naked and chanting awooga! round the camp fire he has in his bedroom. if you want to embellish the feeling of either hendrix or akabusi in the primes of their existences then get stuck into this release and youll feel like a combination of the two peaking on acid.

all around the world dancefloors will be crying hugging and simply howling in disbelief when this beauty is dropped. tunes like this dont come along very often. you have been warned dmc update 5/5

darkos productions have attracted the attention of djs from all over the world. his remix of the title track of nina mirandas (smoke city) album shrift in 2005 was one example, earning him critical acclaim when the remix reached the top 10 in the us download charts. more recently mr rakas has joined darko and his strange worlds collective. together they have embarked on a musical mission, blending deep minimal house and techno with eastern european romani gypsy jazz. simplicity is the operative word best to describe this release. the over sexed sax solo of sexaphone (a one take wonder performed by ben hadwen) takes house music to a new level, whilst danote on the other hand reflects on the hypnotic repetition of the hook, building a solid groove around a repeating synth line, appearing here in two versions, the stripped back extended mix and the more immediate club edit. another great release from the up, coming and one to watch label universal vibes.

franco cinelli, one of the most gifted new producers coming out of argentina, presents here six uncompromisingly quirky club bombs. his previous releases on milnor modern and telegraph have just warmed you up to his sound. now dive in to >profundo amor< and get familiar with these intricately programmed club stompers. you can call it minimal, but when these tracks go ripping through a big pa, thats the last word that will be on your mind. with the opening track >flog<, you get a taste of the freaky after-hours grit that alphahouse records is becoming known for. >m26< is a robotic hair-raiser for the new generation. think minus on steroids. >twisted machine< features a stompy groove and some snare work to drive the dancefloor. >vertientes< is a great dj-tool with a low-slung bassline and dancing synths. >c3d< bounces along with a razor bassline and some tricky transitions. and >project 64< finishes off the lp with a synth line that falls out of the ceiling and straight onto the dancefloor. truly inspiring stuff here, from franco. no filler tracks. all of these are a-sides

this is quite simply one of the most glorious records you will hear this year. it would be easy to lazily reference it against classic period rephlex/planet mu stuff (oops, i just did!), and indeed it appears to share some of the same heritage (even going so far as to feature a remix of rephlex artist global goon in its tracklisting) - but chris leary aka ochre is obviously a man on his own mission. gorgeously lush, but at the same time super-funky…as electronic as kraftwerk starring in a remake of tron, yet somehow as pastoral and organic as edward elgar…much like his label-mate ed chamberlain, leary manages that tricky task of being supremely technical in his programming and arrangements, but without losing the heart and soul of the music amidst all the studio trickery. you know that old chestnut often said when referring to vintage or classic music, >they dont make them like that any more<? well they do…and here it is! simply fantastic.
